This programme brings together two works united by themes of passion and human emotion. Berlioz's iconic Symphonie fantastique โ a symphonic love letter and manifesto for a new kind of French music โ was famously inspired by Berlioz's infatuation with Irish actress Harriet Smithson. Written before they had ever met, the symphony helped win her heart: they married three years after its 1830 premiere.
Mozart's concert arias, standalone songs exploring human relationships, represent some of his most personal writing. They are performed here by soprano Louise McClelland, winner of the P2 Talent Prize 2024 and one of Denmark's most praised young sopraner.
The programme is led by conductor Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, alongside the DR Symfoniorkestret. Two performances are scheduled: an evening concert on 11 March at 19:30 and a matinรฉe on 13 March at 14:00, both in the Koncertsalen at DR Koncerthuset.
