Songs of Dawn's Light - Gautier Capuรงon & DR Symfoniorkestret โ€” 11 February

An evening of gripping orchestral drama unfolds at DR Koncerthuset under the baton of Lorenzo Viotti, one of the world's leading young conductors. The programme frames a breathtaking new cello concerto written especially for the French star musician Gautier Capuรงon between two colourful orchestral showpieces.

At the heart of the evening is Thierry Escaich's cello concerto Morgengryets sange (Songs of Dawn's Light), which Gautier Capuรงon premiered in 2023. The work is lyrical in nature, built on melodic themes that never resolve but instead continually transform, moving between peaceful, incantatory passages and a ritual dance โ€” a piece of light and shadow.

Richard Strauss opens the programme with his cartoon-like portrait of Till Eulenspiegel, the fearless rogue of German folklore. Strauss, who considered himself a humorist, intended the work to give audiences a good laugh. Ravel's La Valse (1920) begins as an affectionate parody of the Viennese waltz before spinning wildly out of control into its own destruction, reflecting the turbulence of a post-war world.

The same programme is performed on both 11 and 12 February 2027.
