Saraste & Brahms - DR Symfoniorkestret

Finnish conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste returns to lead DR Symfoniorkestret in two performances of a romantic orchestral programme at DR Koncerthuset's Koncertsalen, on 8 April at 19:30 and 10 April at 14:00.

The programme opens with Igor Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments, a work composed as a tribute to Claude Debussy following the French composer's death in 1918. Built from mosaic-like movements for colourful winds, the piece gradually moves toward a solemn chorale, carrying what the programme describes as a purifying energy.

Brahms then takes centre stage in two works. First, Saraste conducts the composer's Serenade No. 2, in which Brahms's melodic warmth, wit and rhythmic elegance come through with particular directness. The evening's centrepiece is Brahms's Symphony No. 2 โ€” a work that balances life's sunshine and shadows with supreme compositional mastery and builds to one of the most captivating finales in symphonic literature.

Tickets for both performances are available through the DR Koncerthuset booking platform.
