Neige sur Abidjan

'Neige sur Abidjan' is the debut text by Iannicko N'Doua, directed by his longtime collaborator Marc Beaupré, produced by the company Orange Noyée.

The piece is rooted in autobiography: in the winter of 2009, N'Doua — then a theatre student — travels to Côte d'Ivoire to meet a father, brothers and sisters he had barely or never known, confronting the shock between his life in Ste-Thérèse, Quebec, and Abidjan.

Far from clichéd portrayals of Africa, the work is intimate yet innovative, blurring the lines between past and present lived experience and renewing the autofiction genre. It weaves together laughter, outbursts of anger, emotional shocks, flashes of consciousness, and the rhythm of coupé-décalé dance.
