En attendant Godot

Two vagabonds, Vladimir and Estragon, wait on a road by a tree in the evening for Godot. They cannot be sure they have the right day or place, or even who Godot is. The play is a funny and philosophical look at existence, doubt and waiting.

This is the first collaboration between Théâtre Centaur and the TDP. The play is one of the few works its author wrote in two languages. Director and Centaur artistic director Eda Holmes recasts the two characters as young people waiting in the shadow of Mount Royal. Their wait becomes that of a future that never begins, rather than of a life slowly ending.

The play caused a major scandal at its 1953 premiere at the Théâtre de Babylone in Paris, because audiences felt it told no story and led nowhere. Today the absurd feels closer to reality, and younger generations, on stage and in the audience, inherit a disorder they did not choose.

Performances are at 16:00 in the Salle Denise-Pelletier. The cast is Andreas Apergis, Wood Barthelmy, Alexandre Cardin, Frédéric Charbonneau and Lennikim.
