Alice in Wonderland is the debut creation of choreographer Andrรฉ Santos for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, presented in a boldly neoclassical style. A company dancer since 2017, Santos draws from both of Lewis Carroll's novels โ Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass โ to craft a vivid, emotionally resonant narrative.
The production features beloved characters including the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, and Tweedledee and Tweedledum, all woven into a dreamlike and disorienting world that mirrors Alice's own coming-of-age journey. Rather than a passive observer, Alice is depicted as an active protagonist who stumbles, grows, and forges her own path through a constantly shifting universe.
The ballet is set to an original symphonic score by Montreal composer Airat Ichmouratov, performed live by the 55-musician Les Grands Ballets Orchestra โ an ensemble that has been central to the company's success for over three decades.
Performances run June 3 to 6, 2027, at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts, Montreal, with shows at 14:00 and 20:00 each day. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.
