9.2 - Cas Public

9.2 is a contemporary dance work by the company Cas Public, created at the intersection of choreography, physical theatre, and classical music. The piece draws on Beethoven's Ninth Symphony as its source material, reimagining it through a rigorous yet poetic movement vocabulary that explores the limits of perception โ€” sight and hearing are temporarily suspended to let pure dance take over.

Choreographer Hรฉlรจne Blackburn and performer Cai Glover developed the piece collaboratively, with Glover serving not only as one of the work's lead interpreters but also as co-artistic director and steward of future revivals. His own perspective layers onto Blackburn's founding ideas, keeping the work alive and evolving.

The choreography interrogates how emotions are projected onto inanimate objects, and how those objects can bridge the gaps that disability โ€” in all its forms โ€” places between individuals and reality. The lighting design actively participates in this sensory play, creating an environment where perception itself becomes unreliable.

9.2 is described as an audacious journey of sensation designed to speak to all generations and to celebrate every body and individual, transforming physical presence into language.
