Albanie, Paradis Secret d'Europe - Patrick Bureau

After decades of isolation under Enver Hoxha's communist dictatorship (1944–1985), Albania opened its borders and has seen rapid tourism growth since the 1990s. This small Balkan nation, tucked between Greece and Montenegro, is one of Europe's best-kept secrets, and its capital Tirana has transformed into a vibrant, forward-looking city.

Patrick Bureau draws on numerous journeys through the country to reveal a land of striking contrasts: wild mountains in the north, turquoise beaches along the Ionian coast, and traditional towns and villages listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Throughout, he weaves in authentic encounters with local communities.

Bureau's mission is to go beyond the clichés and offer a genuine portrait of Albanian life — its complex history, strong identity and spectacular natural environment. The conference positions Albania as one of the most fascinating yet underexplored crossroads between East and West.

The event takes place at the Grande Salle of Salle Pauline-Julien at 19:30.
