The Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir performs at Holmens Kirke on 15 October 2026, with cellist Amalie Stalheim and conductor Mogens Dahl. The programme is built around the concept of the Nordic mind, a term coined by Per Nørgård in 1956 under the influence of his teacher Vagn Holmboe and his study of Jean Sibelius.
The concert opens with Nørgård's early choral work Aftonland, a setting of Pär Lagerkvist texts dedicated to Sibelius, capturing the darkly coloured, nocturnal landscapes associated with Nordic musical identity. This is followed by a selection from Sven-David Sandström's Nordic Mass (2014), written for and recorded by the Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir, in which texts by Tomas Tranströmer are set within a quasi-liturgical framework for choir and cello.
American composer Missy Mazzoli's Year of our Burning (2021), receiving its Danish premiere, was commissioned by the Bergen International Festival for this choir. The work, for choir and cello, reflects on the isolation and fear of the pandemic years and the search for renewed community. The cello part is played by Norwegian cellist Amalie Stalheim, who also performed at the world premiere.
Bach's motet Komm, Jesu, Komm BWV 229 closes the programme, a work of consolation likely composed for a funeral, offering hope in the face of loss.
