The Master and the Apprentice – Buxtehude and the young Bach - HemiDemiSemi Consort

HemiDemiSemi Consort brings together the music of two giants of the Baroque era: Dieterich Buxtehude, one of the most influential organists and composers of the 17th century, and the young Johann Sebastian Bach, who famously admired and was deeply shaped by Buxtehude's work.

The ensemble is led by Jakob Bloch Jespersen and focuses on vocal repertoire from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Their name is drawn from the musical term "hemidemisemiquaver" — the smallest standard note value in Western notation, known in Danish as a sixty-fourth note.

The concert takes place in The Queen's Hall at The Black Diamond, the Royal Danish Library's modern waterfront building in Copenhagen, as part of the After-hours Concerts 2026 series. The event starts at 17:00 and runs for approximately one hour.
