Samuel Lee & Ildfuglen - DR Symfoniorkestret

Following his victory at the Malko Competition in 2024, the highly gifted conductor Samuel Lee returns to the DR Symphony Orchestra for two performances in September 2026. The programme centres on Stravinsky's blazing The Firebird suite — a score that ushered orchestral music into a new, luminous era and culminates in an infernal dance of stamping rhythms and flaming colours.

Sibelius' Violin Concerto features the orchestra's newly appointed concertmaster, Ludvig Gudim, as soloist. His performance promises an almost shamanic quality, channelling the timeless Nordic stories woven into the music.

Completing the programme is a brand-new symphony by the Icelandic-born, Copenhagen-based composer Bára Gísladóttir, celebrated for her sweeping, powerful sonic landscapes.

The Thursday evening performance (24 September) is followed by a free 'Extranummer' in the foyer: roughly half an hour of intimate music-making by orchestra members in a relaxed setting with the bar open and subdued lighting. Admission to 'Extranummer' is included in the concert ticket.
