Rockers By Choice were among the very first acts to establish rap in the Danish language and played a central role in shaping the Danish hip-hop scene. Formed in 1987 by brothers Chief 1 and DeePee, the group honed their craft on Copenhagen's underground stages before signing to Virgin Records through producer and DJ Kenneth Bager.
Their 1989 single 'Opråb til det danske folk!' broke them through to a wide audience, making them one of the first Danish rap names to achieve mainstream recognition. They went on to score the hit 'Engel', which made them the first Danish rappers to appear on MTV.
Throughout the 1990s the group toured extensively and released five albums in total before bringing the first chapter of their career to a close in 1997.
