This matinée performance repeats the same programme as the 22 October evening concert, conducted by Stanislav Kochanovsky with DR Symfoniorkestret.
Soo-Kyung Hong, DR Symfoniorkestret's principal cellist, again takes centre stage as soloist in Donghoon Shin's cello concerto Nachtergebung, inspired by Georg Trakl's poetry and first performed at the Berlin Philharmonie in 2022.
The programme moves from Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings — a work of sorrowful longing embraced by Americans in their darkest collective moments — through Shin's vivid concerto, before culminating in Shostakovich's deeply personal final symphony, written from a hospital bed as a summation of a lifetime's creativity.
