DR Big Band and harmonica virtuoso Mathias Heise return to the Koncertsalen to revisit their album A Love Supreme Revisited — a reinterpretation of John Coltrane's legendary 1965 masterpiece — in celebration of what would have been Coltrane's 100th birthday.
When the pair first performed this programme in 2025, Politiken awarded it six hearts and called it 'utterly fantastic', also describing Heise variously as 'miraculous', 'fantastic' and 'almost too good to be true'.
Heise's relationship with DR Big Band runs deep: as a child and young musician he was taught by the band's own players, and as an adult he has worked with them repeatedly as both soloist and arranger, culminating in the Coltrane tribute.
Expect an evening of rich big-band orchestration — arranged by Heise himself — interwoven with the crisp, distinctive tones of his harmonica, honouring the deep jazz roots of Coltrane's spiritual suite while bringing something new to each performance.
