Verdi: Requiem - DR Symfoniorkestret

Verdi's Requiem, first performed in 1874, stands apart from over a millennium of requiem settings for its dramatic intensity and deeply personal reflection on faith, doubt, grief, and redemption. Composed partly in response to the deaths of close colleagues including the composer Rossini, it became one of Verdi's most intimate and exploratory works.

DR Symphony Orchestra's chief conductor Fabio Luisi, a noted interpreter of Verdi, has described conducting this work as a personal act of catharsis each time he takes the podium.

The programme runs across three performances: Thursday 29 October and Friday 30 October at 19:30, and Saturday 31 October at 13:00, all in Koncertsalen at DR Koncerthuset.

After the Friday evening concert (29 October), audience members are invited to stay for 'Extranummer' โ€” a half-hour informal session in the foyer where DR Symphony Orchestra musicians perform in an intimate setting, with a bar open and dimmed lighting. The musicians curate the programme themselves and speak about the music. 'Extranummer' is included in the concert ticket.
