Victoria Benedictsson (1850โ1888) lived a brief but intense life: just 38 years, four published books, and a violent death by suicide. Despite the brevity of her career, she remains one of the most significant Scandinavian writers of the 1880s, celebrated for her fierce critique of women's rights and the institution of marriage.
Her best-known works include Pengar (Money), her breakthrough novel and acknowledged masterpiece; Fru Marianne (Mrs. Marianne), a psychological novel; Frรฅn Skรฅne (From Skรฅne), her debut short-story collection; and Efterlรคmnade dagbรถcker (Posthumous Diaries), her candid personal journals.
