Grammy-winning conductor Nils Schweckendiek makes his debut with DR Vokalensemblet in a programme that unites great poetry with choral music, drawing on texts by Lorca, Shakespeare, Éluard and Rückert.
The programme spans a wide range of twentieth-century choral writing: from Paul Hindemith's An eine Tote and György Kurtág's Omaggio a Luigi Nono — marking 100 years since Kurtág's birth, celebrated across Europe this season — to Robert Schumann's Romantic songs and Einojuhani Rautavaara's Lorca suite.
Further works include pieces by Rudolf Escher and the Estonian composer Seppar, as well as Kaija Saariaho's sensuous Nuits, Adieux. The concert closes with Mahler's Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen in Clytus Gottwald's choral arrangement.
Nils Schweckendiek is one of Europe's most sought-after conductors and has received a Grammy Award (2024), two Gramophone Editor's Choice awards and three Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik prizes.
