Dutch pianist and composer Joep Beving brings his Liminal programme to the intimate setting of Studie 2 at DR Koncerthuset. The concert offers an immersive journey into his characteristic piano sound, exploring the balance between intention and intuition and seeking a deeper connection between humanity, nature and surroundings.
The music of Liminal grew from a period of personal turbulence, when the weight of world events left Beving struggling to create. Inspiration came from an encounter with Pierre Huyghe's exhibition Liminal at the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul โ an installation placing humans within a broader ecology of living beings, materials, technology and biology.
The resulting music sometimes seeks to impose order on chaos, and at other times flows freely, shifting and returning to silence. Beving describes it as closer to ecology than architecture. The Studie 2 format places artist and audience in close proximity, making for an especially personal listening experience.
