Danças Ocultas, a quartet of accordionists from Águeda near Porto, brings their tenth studio album "Inspirar" to the stage. Released in May 2025 and co-produced by Gabriel Gomes of Madredeus, the album quickly reached the Top 10 of the European World Music Charts.
Over 35 years, the ensemble has built an international reputation through a deceptively simple concept: lyrical, peaceful music played exclusively on four diatonic accordions, drawing from village folk traditions, tango nuevo, and chamber music — particularly the Russian Terem Quartet. Their style has been described as "folk impressionist": timeless, minimalist, and deeply expressive.
The group has collaborated with choreographer Paulo Ribeiro, the Ballet Gulbenkian, and Brazilian cellist-arranger Jaques Morelenbaum. They have also toured China and Canada, and performed at major international festivals. Their 25th anniversary album "Amplitude" (2015) was critically acclaimed.
