Guided Tour of the Sainte-Philothรฉe Church in Grammont

The Chapelle du domaine de Grammont is a neo-Gothic chapel built between 1895 and 1897 by diocesan architect Pierre Arribat, following a bequest from ร‰tienne Bouisson-Bertrand โ€” a prominent surgeon, deputy, and rector โ€” who donated the Grammont estate to the Faculty of Medicine on the condition that a chapel be constructed.

The chapel houses the tombs of ร‰tienne Bouisson-Bertrand and his wife Amรฉlie, with inscriptions in Latin from the Psalms and the letters of Saint Paul. Its stained glass windows, created by Charles Champigneulle, depict leading figures from the Academy of Medicine of the University of Montpellier using an integrated photo technique.

Since 2000, the chapel has been entrusted to a French-speaking parish of the Greek Orthodox Church of France and is dedicated to St. Philothea of Athens. The Orthodox interior arrangements were designed by Georges Xรฉnakis.

Guided tours run from 10:00 to 13:00 on Saturday 19 September 2026, as part of the Journรฉes europรฉennes du patrimoine 2026.
