The Jardin de la Reine is a historic section of the Jardin des Plantes in Montpellier, recognised as the oldest botanical garden in France and among the first in Europe. It traces its origins to an experimental plot created by Pierre Richer de Belleval, a pioneer of modern botany.
Today, managed by a dedicated association, the garden serves as both a cultural site and an educational space focused on biodiversity โ including insects, birds, medicinal plants, aromatic plants, and now dye plants (tinctorial species).
Visits are commented by association members who share the richness and unique history of this remarkable place. The event takes place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September as part of the European Heritage Days 2026.
