Written by Mary-Lee Picknell and directed by Guillermina Kerwin, this biting two-hander traps former lovers Malik and Karine in a broken elevator after ten years of silence, forcing them to confront their shared history and the unresolved question of why Karine ghosted Malik a decade earlier.
With its caustic humour and claustrophobic setting, the play tackles contemporary issues such as double standards, privilege, and consent. Picknell's precise, incisive writing pushes audiences toward an introspection that can be uncomfortable.
Mary-Lee Picknell is the 2026 winner of the Prix littéraire de la Ville de Québec for her debut play 'Heimat/Revenir'. She also wrote the theatrical adaptation of Jean-Paul Eid's graphic novel 'Le petit astronaute'. Director Guillermina Kerwin is known for her work on 'Le nœud' at La Petite Licorne and 'Beau gars' at CTD'A.
The play was originally created at Théâtre Duceppe in 2025 in a 5-à-7 format and is now performed by Les Hébertistes. Note: Saturday performances are at 16:00 only on September 12; the regular Saturday schedule may vary — check with the venue.
