Discovering the Restoration of Furniture and Objets d'Art

Mickaël Amant invites visitors to discover the exacting craft of furniture and art object restoration at the Hôtel de Grave in Montpellier, as part of the European Heritage Days 2026.

Trained in major workshops across the south of France and holding a master's degree in cabinetmaking, Amant established his own workshop in 2002. He has developed a particular expertise in 17th-century Boulle marquetry — an intricate technique combining tortoiseshell, brass, ivory and mother-of-pearl — as well as in precious wood marquetry.

His work also encompasses the restoration of statuary and liturgical furniture spanning the 13th to the 19th century, reflecting the breadth of his knowledge of historic materials and craft traditions.
