At the invitation of the Regional Chamber of Accounts Occitanie, historian Évelyne Samy will deliver a lecture on the history of the Court of Auditors and its role in the administration of aid and finances in Montpellier.
The talk spans the period from 1629 through to the French Revolution, shining a light on a little-known institution and the individuals who ran it — the so-called 'people of the accounts' — and their significance in shaping Montpellier's society.
This research was conducted within the framework of the association Mémoire d'Oc, which is dedicated to uncovering and transmitting the heritage history of the Languedoc region, in partnership with the University of the Third Age of Montpellier. Expect historical rigour alongside fascinating anecdotes about a world that has largely been forgotten.
