Moor Mother (Camae Ayewa), an award-winning activist, poet and musician, returns to ALICE to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her album Fetish Bones (2016).
The album appeared on many major year-end lists in 2016, including Pitchfork, Vice, Spin and The Wire. The Wire ranked it in its top five alongside David Bowie and Autechre, and Jazz Right Now named it album of the year.
Her sound builds dense noise landscapes from samples ranging from Fugazi to Alice Coltrane, with intense rapping over everything from harsh noise to frantic sonic chaos. Her lyrics address life as a racialised, working-class woman in the US, confronting violence, sexism and racism.
Beyond her solo work, she has helped shape projects such as Irreversible Entanglements and 700 Bliss. She has performed at ALICE before, to a packed room.
