During the autumn holidays, the Royal Danish Library turns The Black Diamond into a playground for families. The centrepiece is the storytelling tour The Magic of the Night, which follows a girl named Evi and the friendly night guard Madsen as they explore the library. Visitors carry a magic bag and a copy of the book, and meet ghosts, living stories and figures from the library's historical collections.
Afterwards, children can continue with creative activities. In the workshop they can shape small sculptures from hairpins and plasticine or make paper cutouts, inspired by Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen and Hans Christian Andersen. Other activities include a nose-catching game with fishing nets, inspired by Tycho Brahe, and a costume corner with a photo studio, inspired by Karen Blixen. Cozy history tents let visitors get close to the library's collections.
Practical information: admission is free for children and their adults. Activities are aimed mainly at children aged 5-10, though all children are welcome. They take place around the building and in the Panorama Hall on the 4th floor, open from 10:00 to 16:00. Follow the signs or ask the staff for directions. Food can be bought at the library's café, and there is limited space in selected areas for brought-in food.
